Poetry

One needs a simple or scintillating issue
Then lines can be crafted that illuminate and allude.
You can call on words for substance or style
Communicate your essence with elegance and guile.

How cleverly and beautifully done it seems
And so you write reams and reams
Work all you want; craft as you will
If it is all you, the result will be shallow and still.

What is it about language that intrigues and beguiles
Brings forth tears then brightens with smiles
What mystery leads us amiss
Perhaps it is simple as this.

We say we use words to express ourselves
May be…words use us to express themselves
Poetry comes neither from self nor out of the blue
Only by the grace of God is it given to you.
